TIBETAN TSALUNG HEALING CENTRE
“Health and happiness are the rights of every individual. That is why it is important to encourage the promotion of different medical systems.”
The Dalai Lama, Dec. 26, 1981
TIBETAN MEDICINE | SOWA RIGPA
Sowa can be translated as ‘Healing’ and Rigpa as ‘Science’. So Sowa Rigpa means Healing Science. Sowa can also be translated as ‘Nourishment’ while Rigpa is translated as ‘Awareness’. In this case Sowa Rigpa means ‘Nourishment of Awareness’.
This twofold meaning is connected to the aim of Tibetan medicine: realizing relative and absolute balance.
The Tibetan healing system has a complex approach to diagnosis, utilizes behaviour and dietary modification, natural medicines and physical therapies to treat illness. It observes the physical body, the psyche, the spiritual, but also the astrological. It’s a healing system almost beyond holism and compatible with any other eastern or western medical tradition.
